whitney houston and jesus…..

The world seems to be reeling from the news that Whitney Houston is dead.

I remember her well, and more than once, you would’ve found me singing houston’s songs in my younger years. I always admired her talent….she sang beautifully, and was even pretty good as an actress.

And not to mention, she was gorgeous.

I guess you could say I looked up to her and always assumed she had it all together.

Then news of her and bobby brown getting married started filling the news, along with the stories of abuse and drugs.

Next thing you know, they’re divorced and whitney is said to be on drugs.

The magazine covers changed from displaying Houston’s beauty to displaying her sad expressions and headlines of drug addiction.

So how does this happen?

How does someone go from famous and all together, to lost and falling apart?

I think it comes down to discontentment—and choices.

I think that even as believers, we can love the Lord, and yet, if we’re not careful, find ourselves chasing after things that we hope will bring us fulfillment.

We somehow lose sight of the reality that only Jesus can truly satisfy.

We go through the motions of the Christian life, and all the while we’re looking for the one thing that we think will complete us.

We search and search and spend money and time hoping to find the perfect thing that will make us feel good about ourselves, when all the while God is waiting for us to look to him.

He is the answer we’re looking for.

He’s the One who can bring us comfort and he’s the One who will never leave us or forsake us.

He can bring us a satisfaction that will never, ever wane.

Even in the hardest of times, he is the only answer.

Thanks for the honest and thoughtful commentary. I am also so sad not only at her death but at how the last chapters of her life were lived. So much hinges on our decisions…and yes only God has the answers.

I have thought so much about her in the days since we heard of her death. When I went to her concert in 1987 she sang a song called “He” – an old church song about all that God is. I wept. So beautiful.

So many search everywhere but where they will find all they need. So sad. Thanks for sharing.
