no more diapers!!!!!

February 11, 2011

we’ve reached a new milestone in our house this past week… that, quite honestly, i didn’t think was going to happen for months yet.

you see, my sweet baby boy, who happens to be 4 now, decided that he was ready to wear big boy underwear.  never mind the fact that mommy has been pushing (gently of course  🙂  ) this whole idea since last summer and matthew wanted absolutely no part of it!

he woke up last week, the day of the big mid-west blizzard and informed me that he was going to wear underwear that day.  i remember doing a big “gulp” when he said that…i envisioned my day being filled with lots of puddles, lots of laundry, and lots of frustration on my part.

instead, matthew had only one accident that first day, a couple more in the days following, and NONE this week!  and when he did have accidents, they were only minor…like he just didn’t quite get to the bathroom in time.

i bought him a special toy story toy as a reward and he has been walking around totally proud of himself for his accomplishment.

this is a huge milestone for us, especially since it means that this is the first time in 10 years that we have NO ONE in diapers.  it will be the first time in 10 years wheni won’t have to spend $35 on a big box of diapers and $8 on big boxes of wipes!!!  oh happy day!!!

as i have been thinking about matthew’s newest accomplishment, it reminded me of how very much like matthew i am.  he didn’t want anything to do with potty training until he was good and ready.  once he set his mind to it, he did it.

i can be that way when it comes to making changes in my life.  whether it be changing the way i eat or cultivating a new habit or wanting spiritual growth in my life.

i won’t see fruit of those things in my life until i set my mind to it and want it bad enough to make the necessary changes.  there really is truth to the saying, “no pain, no gain.”

i was thinking about how God is the potter and we are the clay…yet, God can’t mold and shape us unless we are willing to be soft and are open to what He is making us into…….

Way to go Matthew! That is so exciting! (And I’m sure it looks beautiful in your budget too!) 🙂
